Acme is!


Acme is a grocery store around here. They are having a huge sale on Pepsi this week (got us some Throwback!), and the entraceway had this neat display. It does say the whole word Superbowl, XLIV (complete with goal posts), it just didn't fit in the photo.

I left Acme pondering who would take the time to do that? Some crafty Pepsi delivery guy? Does he put up giant Superbowl Pepsi displays at every stop? It must make his route very long.

Or maybe, it's the manager, and he's an overly demanding guy who made the college students who work there stay late one night to put it together, because dammit, we have all this Pepsi, we might as well USE IT!

Mini Things

Isn't this the cutest thing you've ever seen? I always get neat stuff from Mini Cooper. This year celebrates the 50th birthday of Mini, so they sent a special edition of their magazine with a note and this cute little paper clip. I just can't wait to clip mini things with my Mini paper clip!


Things like this, the copy of Mini International magazine they sent, which celebrates the birthday. Here is my favourite page:


"Mayfair" Special edition trim with brown paint and tan bonnet stripes. Droooool. I'm not looking to give up my Sasha just yet, but wow. Apparently it's not available in the US. Maybe they didn't figure out how to put the steering wheel on the other side.

Just look at the awesome side-mirror caps. Little tan stripes?! Craziness!

I am definitely a Mini fan for life.

Rubber Ducky, You're the One

It is an art installation by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Apparently he does a lot of larger-than-life installations in Holland. Check out his website here and flip through his project pages. They are pretty crazy :)

It's Beatles Day!

Happy Beatles Day everyone! On this day:

1966 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono met in an art gallery.

1971 - John Lennon's LP "Imagine" was released.

2009 - "The Beatles Stereo Box Set" was released. Seventeen discs were included in the set.

2009 - "The Beatles - Rockband" game was released.

I think calling it "Beatles Day" comes from the release of the box set and Rockband. Both of which look totally awesome. It's a huge day for nerds of all kinds!

Liberry

I am thrilled to be the proud owner of a brand new Library Card! AND they are a Pals Plus Library! Whatever that means, I'm not sure! I guess it's good!

Things are so modern now, they even have keychain versions of the card, for the look that says "My brain is so full from reading these big, thought-provoking books that I cannot be expected to remember my card too!"

It had been so long since I'd been in a library, I took some time to just browse the shelves and acquaint myself with all the literary treasures which await. I should have done this right when I got laid off; it could have killed a lot of boring days. But NOW, I can't get a job-I have too much reading to do! ::sigh::

Kickin' it Old Skool

Throwback! Both sodas are made with natural sugar, as they were in the 60s-70s, instead of high-fructose corn syrup like they are now. And the packaging is neat, all retro-style. You can read more here if you want. But it's only around for a limited time, and that limited time began about two months ago. Since the first week, we have not found these anywhere, despite hearing rumors that Pepsi Co is making more (even then we only found cans, no bottles). I'm not trying to advertise for Pepsi or anything; in fact, I don't even drink much soda (I'd much rather waste the calories on candy or something equally empty). But TG was super stoked for these, and I was pretty intringued as well. Fortunately Target had it AND it was on SALE (maybe that's why it tasted so good)!  The drink itself is pretty good, almost tastes less carbonated than regular soda-- but that's ok, it's the same reason I like Coke in glass bottles better. So now here we are with no more Throwback, unless Pepsi decides to rerun it. Ever. 

Keep your eyes peeled, they usually mix Throwback in with the regular soda, so you have to look at the packaging to make sure you got the right one. And if you do....mmmm enjoy it, cuz its' time is limited!

Bowling

Who has been bowling lately? Anyone? Anyone? Oh wait..ME! Haha, I went bowling today! It was awesome. And because we were playing with a six year old, we got to have bumpers too. So in addition to being fun, we all made pretty good scores. Go us!

Incidentally, six year olds are cute, but then you take them into a store and they decide they HAVE to have EVERything. "Really bad."

In other news, myself and That Guy went down to Baltimore this week to catch an O's game. Pictures to come for that. Of course, they lost. We've never been to an O's game wherein they actually WON. Ehhhhh. Stay tuned.

Like Buttah

What's this funky blob of yellow goo? Why, it's butter! Homemade butter, that is...take some heavy cream and a dash of salt in a jar, and just shake the living bejesus out of it! You can watch it go through the stages of heavy cream, then whipped cream, then suddenly, POW! The solids separate from the liquids and you have butter. The liquid part is buttermilk, I've heard.

This would be a good project to keep little kids occupied AND tire them out quickly.

Birthday Loot

I had the best birthday! After a lazy morning, I opened up my present from That Guy: a shiny new PINK KitchenAid!! (Pink for the Susan G Koman Foundation: "I support boobs.") And a super nice knife from his mom! I cannot wait to cut and mix things*! A friend also gifted me with a set of silicone bakeware, which will be fun to try out...has anyone used these? Do you have to decrease baking time or anything?

After a brief nap (opening presents is TIRING!), I took two solid hours to get ready for my birthday night out with That Guy (I don't dress up much). He took me to dinner at a nice restaurant I always wanted to try (Risotto Primavera...mmmm!), then to our favorite bar where folks celebrated with us (it's like Cheers over there, really). And I now drink Cosmopolitans, yum!


First order of business with the KitchenAid (I should name her Betty or something): pizza dough. The recipe came from the mixer's book, and it was good.

Second order will be Grandmother's Buckeyes. OMG are they ever good!!

I'm sure you will be seeing much more of Betty in the future, so stay tuned for awesomeness!!
