What's this funky blob of yellow goo? Why, it's butter! Homemade butter, that is...take some heavy cream and a dash of salt in a jar, and just shake the living bejesus out of it! You can watch it go through the stages of heavy cream, then whipped cream, then suddenly, POW! The solids separate from the liquids and you have butter. The liquid part is buttermilk, I've heard. This would be a good project to keep little kids occupied AND tire them out quickly.
